Cultural Awareness

Culture based initiatives

Our culture is the bridge between our past, our present, and our future. By learning from those that came before us to make the neccessary changes now, we will be setting not oursleves, but those that will come after us, in the right path for success.

The Hermanos contiually work on encouraging and promoting the richness of our history, languages, and traditions while also speaking out on issues that remain prevalent today.

This past fall semester, the Hermanos decided the best form of cultural expression was showcase our great Latin food through our final Golden Week event, Lambda Cantina. Given how expensive dining in Hoboken can be, our goal was to simulate that fine dining experience for our peers at without the fine dining expenses, with half of our proceeds going towards our Alpha Alpha Scholarship.

The flyer for Latinad is Canceled flyer where we talked about nuances of blackness with unique complexities that vary throughout different parts of the world. We learned about why sentiments such as “I no black, I Dominican” or “Hay que mejorar la raza” (We have to better the race) came to existence.
